Kodist is a point-and-shoot camera that produce lifelike film photography shots.

Kodist avoids all AI enhancements by processing data directly from the sensors:

- Your shots are never too evenly lit
- There's no excessive sharpening, aggressive denoising, and artificial smudging
- No weird, frowned-upon HDR artifacts on object edges
- Natural and pleasant-looking grains produces by physics, not by an algorithm

Your shots are rendered with your choice of a professional film photography colour profile. They produce natural and balance colours that makes your shots stand out in the sea of phone photographs.

Point and shoot, and that's it: your photo is saved to your iOS Photo Library, and the camera gets out of your way.

◎ Minimal App, Packed Technologies

Kodist is minimally featured, but user experience is not an afterthought.

- 10-bit HEIF support saves your photos in a rich, space-efficient format
- Geotagging makes your photos searchable on maps in your Photo Library
- Automatic image orientation allows your to take photos however you hold the phone
- Photos are saved to iOS Photo Library with full EXIF info. There's no separate in-app album

◎ Free (for now)

There are no pay-to-unlock features (yet!) and you can keep having fun for free. Tips are welcome and we may have something for you in the future ;)

Version History Tap-to-focus is smarter in this update: your focus point now stays as long as you keep the camera on the scene — even if you recompose right after tapping — and clears once you point away. AE/AF Lock still holds until you tap again. 2026.6 Sep 1 Hi there! This update contains some improvements to the photos you make with Kodist.

◎ Manual focus

After tapping to focus, you can now swipe left/right to adjust the focal distance. Zebra lines are overlaid to help you see where you are focused. We hope you like having manual focus control while keeping Kodist's lightweight camera experience.

◎ Technical improvements

* Your photos are now oriented more accurately and reliably, especially when you take portrait and landscape shots in quick succession.
* Photo orientations are locked when you press the capture button — the orientation won’t change if you move the device after capture.
* Photo timestamps are locked to the moment you pressed the shutter.
* When photographing a person, colors now subtly correct toward natural skin tones.
* Kodist now launches 50% faster — from 0.87s to 0.41s on an iPhone 15 Pro. Not huge, but we like it ;)

Thank you and hope you’ll enjoy the update. 2026.5 Jul 8 Hi there! This update brings Kodist to more people in their language, including Italian, Spanish, Portuguese, and Korean. We also updated the English variant for Australia.

Also, we re-branded some of the film emulations in the app, and made their parody names and background stories more on point in each localization. And we fixed some UI elements that weren't properly localized.

Last but not least, you can now open Kodist with Siri with a localized natural phrase, such as "Open Kodist".

This update also fixed some issues with the app:
* EV adjustments wouldn't work for the front-facing camera. Fixed.
* Film selection would reset to default after launching the camera from the Lock Screen. Fixed.
* In certain zoom levels, the image might have a hairline black strip on an edge. Fixed.

If you tipped us before, no matter the amount, you will unlock all films right away.

Also improved or fixed in this update:
* The app is now available in French, German, Japanese, and Traditional Chinese, in addition to English and Simplified Chinese.
* The app is now localized for English variants in the US, the UK, and Canada.
* The film effect and aspect ratio menu may jitter and become un-tappable. Fixed, and this also resolves the issue where the app might heat up your device faster than desired.

Thank you for your patience while we worked with Technical Support to resolve an issue that prevented us from pushing timely fixes. 0.14 08/31/2025 This update adds 2 films for your creative experiments:
- Asawaka: a vintage fade-colour film that pairs perfectly with still objects and quiet scenes. Unlocked by using iPhone 16 Pro/Pro Max Camera Control to launch Kodist, or by launching the camera from Lock Screen widgets. Requires iOS 18.
- Blush Boudoir: a modern colour film with a pink overtone. Unlocked by taking 100 photos in the app.

We updated “Your Films”:
* You can easily scroll to the film you want with a list that’s now much more compact.
* A dedicated page showcases the film’s story, the quest to complete to unlock the film, as well as many sample photos for your reference.

We improved the imaging process:
* The EDR tone mapping is adjusted to bring out more natural colours while preserving details in the highlight areas.
* You can disable EDR photos from the system status page entirely, if you so wish.
* Image processing is about 2x faster.

- New film effect “Lomography”, a nostalgic film style that simulates the peephole imaging process — unlocked after you take 25 photos.

- Review your recent photo: When you take a photo, you can tap and hold on the lower-left corner to see the image — review colours, exposure, and focus — without leaving the app.
